[SOLVED]Battery/Link/Thrust/M1 bars skinny, no txt OSX 10.10

Post by lxrocks »

Marcus, as requested, creating topic for this.

So as per the screen capture, the cfclient looks ok except for the Battery/Link/Thrust and Motor meters which appear to be 'skinny' with no %progress text.

Running crazyflie-clients-python-2014.12.1 on MAC Yosemite 10.10.1, python2.7. The bars work fine on VM 0.5 and the same cfclient code on the mac shows 'skinny' progress bars.
Battery/Link meters not showing properly on MAC 10.10.1
Battery/Link meters not showing properly on MAC 10.10.1
I am not familiar with Qt but poking around it seems to me that this is not a bug, but QtProgressBar working as expected. According to the QtProgressBar documentation, 'MAC' style does not display text - http://pyqt.sourceforge.net/Docs/PyQt4/ ... ml#details The 'MAC' style seems to be a skinny bar only. Perhaps need to select a different style for MAC to see the %progress text.

The Qt experts might confirm this quicker than me.. :)

When I load menu.ui in QtDesigner on Linux, the Bars show correctly.

I downloaded QtDesigner for MAC, loaded menu.ui and it shows a skinny bar, so I am still tending towards a Style issue on the MAC. This is the first time I have looked at Qt before so I am fumbling a little trying to figure out how the Style works in designer.

I'm fairly certain the "skinny" bars are an OS design change in Yosemite. Progress bars an similar UI affordances in iOS 8 and Yosemite have all taken on this skinny look. Personally, I'm not a fan but - eh whatever. Battery and Link text, IIRC, have never shown up on Mac OS X - again, likely an OS dependent issue since QT probably simply makes Cocoa calls to create these UI elements.

Chad,
I am sure you are right, I must admit, at first i was extremely irritated at the Yosemite L&F changes , but now I am used to it.

That said, I have figured out a way to fix this for Yosemite and learnt a little about the CF code and Qt on the way :) One can change ProgressBar styles in the code using CSS.

See code below crazyflie-clients-python/lib/cfclient/ui/main.py below - code inserted after self.setupUi(self) #line 100 .

Awesome!! I like that soooo much better!!

Maybe you'll want to fork the repository, make the change and create a pull request so Bitcraze can take the change if they like it. I think I'll definately apply it to the fork I commonly use.

Nice job!! :ugeek:

Thanks Chad,
I'm not familiar with Git or process/etiquette for submitting code to Crazyflie repositories.
Perhaps you can point me to a docco somewhere I can read :)

EDIT: Ok - I have registered with Github and will follow the tutorials provided for forking & pull requests.

Chad,

I have created the fork , added my code and put the pull request in.

Github have a great tool for the MAC which made the process fairly straightforward
